My mom has a gold and diamond tennis bracelet that she found in a bathroom 10 years ago. She had it appraised in 1999 and the appraisal was $7500. Do you think this is a good time to sell? Would we get less than what is was worth back then? If so, about how much less?

The bracelet is in great condition. She never wears it.

Well you never know. 10 years ago is a long time, but then it may be one of those really valuable jewelry which costs a lot. Also, wouldn’t it depend if the bracelet is still in a good shape or not.
Go to different stores and see what they offer you, too. Each store may offer you or your mum different prices… good luck

well at local farmers markets are great anyone can sell there items. Also if you have a friend having a yard sale set up a booth there or since its spring here comes "spring cleaning" go though and see if you have enough to make one yourself and sell your jewelry at your garage sale ect. And down town local stores may buy some of your pieces. And there is the option of ebay ect.

First of all what kind of website are you interested in creating? One that just showcases your jewellery or one that has a shopping cart? The shopping cart ones are more expensive and harder to set up. If you’re just starting to sell jewelry, I would suggest you start with a blog that you can cheaply and easily set up. Blogger would be one such place. Alternatively, you can set up an account on Etsy (www.etsy.com) where you can sell your wares for free, among many other friendly designers who love to make handmade items.
As for Amazon, I am pretty sure they pick and choose who they carry, as in they have a buyer who goes out every 3-6 months and picks the brands. Still, if you have a great portfolio I would contact their sales & PR department and try to get an interview. Just make sure you have GREAT photos or samples and you are 100% READY.

I have an old pair of diamond earrings that I took to a locally owned jewelry store. They said they would be worth about $1000-$1200. Would that be the most I could get? How or where do I go?

It is going to depend on so many factors.

When the jewelry store told you that the earrings would be worth $1000-$1200, were they talking about the price that they would sell them for, or the price that they would pay, or a replacement price or an insurance valuation price?

Generally speaking, unless the earrings are antique or Tiffany, Cartier or other very well known and respected brand and are marked as such, you will likely get between 20% and 35% of the retail price for your earrings.

Your choices:

Sell to a jewelry dealer – You’ll get wholesale price less their profit margin.

Sell to a pawn shop – They’ll pay you about 40% of the gold weight and often nothing for the diamonds.

Sell at an auction house – Normally you’ll get around the wholesale price and perhaps a bit more, unless around Christmas tme, less their commission.

Sell at an online auction – It will depend on your seller’s reputation. Anywhere from 20% to 50% (sometimes more) of retail value.

Classified add in the newspaper – Might get lucky. Don’t let them meet at your home. Meet in a bank’s lobby so that the person will be photographed by the bank’s cameras and then you can deposit the cash immediately.

Consignment store – This can work well sometimes. Make certain to read the contract carefully so that you can take your earrings back at any time and that they’re not allowed to sell them under a specific price, regardless of how long they have to hold them.

I’m cleaning out my deceased grandmother’s closet, and found tons of old costume jewelry. Some of it is cheap plastic and going to Goodwill, but some of it is actually nice stuff. I saw an Antiques Roadshow once that said a lot of the old broaches were collector’s items and were actually worth money, so the question is, where do I start to try to sell or auction some of it?

There is an organization called the Vintage Fashion and Costume Jewelry association. The members are experts and traders and collectors of vintage costume and fashion jewelry. You might make a good start by contacting them. Maybe someone near you is a member and could help you figure something out. Here is there website.

You might also go to an antiques consignment shop and see about selling it through them. Just be sure to check their reputation carefully before you leave anything with them.

It depends on what kind of jewelry you are looking to sell. I sell jewelry for Cookie Lee Jewelry and I make a 50% gross profit off what I sell. I don’t know of any other direct sales companies for jewelry, except for Avon, but they deal in many different items.
