Anyone sell old, some tarnished silver jewelry to pawn shops?
I have a jewelry drawer full of jewelry. Some of my jewelry, especially some of my silver jewelry is boring and I don’t wear it anymore. A few pieces, like a thick byzantine has tarnished in the creases. It is all marked 925.
I was thinking of taking it to a pawn shop and seeing if they will buy it (perhaps to melt down).
Has anyone done this? Will they take tarnished? Will they take jewelry with stones? I am not looking to make a ton of money, but you can never have too much cash with Christmas coming.
Does anyone know what they pay by the gram?

If they want to sell it they will dunk it in a cleaning solution (unlikely they will melt it down.) Jewelry with no stones or broken will either be repaired and reset or sold to a scrap dealer. Either way they will make money off of it.
Going price is $0.28 per gram based on 0.925 purity, $9.55 per oz of pure silver and no dealer markup. Pawnshops will typically mark up 15% to 30% so about 20 to 24 cents a gram.
